The Town of Hamburg, New York is located in Erie County, with two medium size cities the Village of Hamburg and Blasdell, encompassing the area. As of the 2010 census, the town had a total population of 56,936, and extended 31.3 square miles. The name is derived from city of Hamburg, in Germany.

Hamburg is considered a “south town” of Erie County with Lake Erie forming the western border of the town and Eighteen Mile Creek, the southern boundary. The city is just south of Buffalo, New York with Interstate 90, US Route 62, US 20, and NY Route 5 all passing through the Village of Hamburg.

In 2012, Main Street in the Village of Hamburg was granted state approval for nomination as a national historic district. The town has also been quoted as “ one of the greatest transformative towns in America.”
